THIS weekend sees the first Stokes Bay Festival, the folk extravaganza has moved from nearby Wickham to the unspoilt coastline near Gosport.

The bay overlooks the Solent and, with this weekend marking the start of Cowes week, racing yachts will fill the sea with colour.

The festival began yesterday and continues until Sunday, with a combination of established and up-and-coming folk artists.

Today's line-up includes the Saw Doctors and Chumbawamba, whose 1997 hit Tubthumping has become a student disco classic.

You can also witness Labour Party old boy Tony Benn and folk legend Roy Bailey.

Tomorrow, Capercaillie, Show of Hands and The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain will play out over the sea at this glorious coastal location.

Sunday's entertainment comes from 3 Daft Monkeys; Alabama 3, responsible for the funky theme tune to The Sopranos and the dons of English rock The Levellers.

Never Mind the Buzzcocks star Phil Jupitus will also be appearing with Ian Dury's former band The Blockheads.

Stokes Bay is ideal for families, offering a whole lot more than just music.

There's the Groovy Movie solar-powered cinema, the Hand to Mouth Theatre Company, storytelling, children's entertainers, and street theatre.
