Paul Weller & Girls Aloud
THIS weekend Osborne House on the Isle of Wight hosts two huge acts from opposite ends of the musical spectrum. On Saturday Paul Weller, the man known as The Modfather, plays at the stately 19th Century estate, supported by indie band the Rifles.
Then on Sunday, pop princesses Girls Aloud will be bringing their high energy, raunchy pop to this scenic location.
Paul Weller has been a mainstay of the British music scene for over thirty years. He fronted the Jam and The Style Council before going solo in the early 90s.
Weller's back catalogue covers genres from punk to Brit-Pop and even Acid Jazz. His hits have included Going Underground and Town Called Malice with The Jam and The Changingman and You Do Something To Me on his own.
He will bring his anthems of bittersweet patriotism and exotic musical experimentation to the Isle of Wight.
Girls Aloud have bucked the trend of reality TV successes burning bright but short, with a record-breaking 18 consecutive Top-Ten singles since their debut Sound of the Underground in 2002.
They have even managed to throw off the stigma of manufactured pop, receiving acclaim from broadsheet newspapers and the indie music press. They will showcase their high-paced feet-moving songs about the life of the modern girl.
n Tickets can be bought along with ferry tickets from redfunnel.co.uk starting at £38 for Paul Weller and £35 for Girls Aloud.
