The Anchor, Eling

PERCHED on the water's side at Eling harbour, The Anchor enjoys one of the most privileged pub settings in the area.

The popular pub, which overlooks the Eling Toll Bridge and the harbour down to the docks, is a hit with both the locals and tourists.

And it makes the most of its picturesque location with a beer garden that overlooks the water for customers to enjoy the views.

Manager Katy Dufton said: "It's a fantastic pub.

People love it because it's right by the water and the locals make it what it is.

"As well as our locals, we get a lot of holidaymakers here, plus lots of people coming in off their boats.

We get a real mix of customers, but they all get on well.

It's a great spot.

" Katy, 23, has only been working at the pub for two-and-a-half months, after moving to Hampshire from Leeds, but she is already putting grand plans for its future into action.

Live bands, ladies' nights, curry nights, quiz nights, a darts board and barbecues are all on the cards for the future.

There is also a function room at the back of the pub that is available for hire for parties or private events.

The pub's relaxed atmosphere is reflected in its flexible closing time.

Katy, who previously worked in events management, said: "We play it by ear each night.

We have got a late licence so, if it's busy, we will stay open later than 11.30pm."

The Anchor serves food on weekdays from noon to 3pm and from 6pm to 9pm and at weekends from noon to 9pm.

I understand what you mean about the previouse management but thank god now The Anchor has returned to a decent chilled out family pub/restaurant.

Good little pub, ideal on the way home from work & great to sit outside in the sun. Probably one of my favourite pubs in the waterside area.

Very disconcerted that several dogs were in the pub with people eating meals: most on leads, but one running around and actually up on a table at one point. Also not happy with very young children running around noisily at 9pm - bad for them and us. We will not be returning!
