The King’s Head, Wickham
NESTLED in the heart of one of the oldest villages in England, the King's Head in Wickham was just what Marie and Paul Beasley were looking for when they decided to find a new pub.
"We wanted a nice village pub with lots of character, and this is just what we hoped for," said landlord Paul.
"The way pubs are going in the cities and towns is to create theme pubs and change the clientele, but we want to keep a homely, family atmosphere."
The couple took over the King's Head just two weeks ago, and instantly fell in love with the pub, its staff and the customers.
Along with assistant manager Jules Karkovskis, the pair say they have plans for some improvements, but are promising they won't be altering things too much.
"There's nothing that's broken in this pub - it just needs a tweak here and there," said Marie.
"We've only been here a short time, but the staff are like one big family - we've been really lucky."
Formerly a Georgian coaching inn, the pub still cherishes the traditional values that have kept it so popular through the ages - good home cooked food, good company, and of course good beer.
Cask Marque accredited, the King's Head has a range of real ales, including a guest beer each month, alongside a wide variety of lagers, ciders, wines and spirits.
And with two bars, a skittle alley, a large garden and an outside play area, the pub hopes to

Sorry to say in our experience, the service, food & general atmosphere have taken a turn for the worse lately, at weekends with groups of menfolk drinking cans around the outside front porch.Sevice at the bar was poor on two occasions when we visited.Lack of staff on a sunday.Hope things improve.
