Where's good to go for a meal?

Café Lulworth, Sarisbury Green
IF YOU didn't know it was there, it's unlikely you'd stumble past it. Café Lulworth is at the end of a long muddy track on the bank of the River Hamble.
It seems crazy that a business could survive there, let alone thrive. But three factors have made this place a winner. Firstly the café is on the doorstep of the busy Universal Boatyard - with 200 people on site lapping up the bacon sandwiches, coffee and cakes and lunches.
Secondly the marina fills with boaty types at the weekend, mooring up and hungry from the sea air. And thirdly, Café Lulworth prides itself on quality ingredients, in particular fresh fish.
I visited the café on a Sunday morning, I am rather partial to breakfast by the sea on the weekend, and was on the hunt for a new haunt.
The building is small and surprisingly modern in such an out-of-the way location. My partner and I both choose the English breakfast, and read the Sunday papers while they cooked it fresh for us. The bacon and the sausages where head-and-shoulders above any other breakfast I've been served, and the eggs, potatoes, tomato and mushrooms all were fabulously cooked. It wasn't the cheapest breakfast, but for the quality of the food it was excellent value.
Looking around the café it was clear that is it much more than a breakfast caff. Homemade cakes, a licensed bar and a specials board showed there was much more on offer here. The café opens for breakfast at 8.30am and a snack menu is available all day, as well as a lunch menu in the middle of the day. The café closes late afternoon and then opens again for evening service.
The café becomes a restaurant with the tables laid for dinner, and a more extensive menu.
The evening menu and the specials board makes a mouth-watering read, and the fish dishes are a real lure for customers. Also their burgers have helped build their reputation, made from 100 per cent ground beef and nothing else. The café opened back in spring 2006 and the business has grown so well, that if you want breakfast on the weekend, you are more than likely going to have to book.
