More acts head to Mela Festival

THERE are just a few weeks to go before Southampton gets it's annual taste of all things southern Asian.
The bright and brilliant Mela Festival returns to Hoglands Park on Saturday, July 19, and looks set to be better than ever.
This week, the Daily Echo can reveal more of the line-up and other highlights of this year's free family fun day.
Leading British Indian dance company Angika - which brings a contemporary approach and vitality to the rich vocabulary of classical Bharata Natyam dance - will take to the stage.
The dancers perform Urban Temple, which was originally created as a commissioned site-specific work for London's South Bank Centre.
Another exciting and talented dance group FIPA will perform a variety of routines as well as extracts from their recent UK tour Tasher Desh.
The night will be filled with Bhangra beats from leading artist Silinder Pardesi, who recently collaborated with top music producer Rishi Rich.
Indy Sagu, Saqi & GI Jatt will get the crowd going with their tumbi (stringed instrument) beats mixed with Western bass.
New to this year's Southampton Mela is a K2 Youth Zone with various local artists performing.
There will be the firm Mela favourites of Chinese, African, Spanish and Afghan music and dance, stalls, workshops, demonstrations, family play area, arts and crafts and much more.
The festival will run in the city centre park, opposite Debenhams, from 12-9pm. For more information visit Art Asia's website artasia.org.uk or call the office on 023 8022 6212.
